TWSO EDUCATION
The Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra is pleased to offer a variety of educational events in 2012. Through these activities, we aim to raise awareness and inspire enthusiasm in the community towards Western art music, as well as to support aspiring musicians and provide further training to conductors from around New Zealand.
Educational Concerts
Our educational concerts take place annually and are a wonderful opportunity for primary school children to attend a concert especially tailored to them. Prior to the concert day, their teachers receive information packs which prepare students for the pieces they will be hearing and acquaint them with the instruments of a full symphony orchestra. Repertoire is chosen for its accessibility and relevance to this age group. Both students and orchestra members take delight in the fun, interactive nature of these concerts.
The next educational performances will be Wednesday, July 25th, 2012.

Scholarships
The Waikato Orchestral Society Foundation Scholarship exists in honor of the founding members of the Society, whose establishment of this symphony orchestra (now the TWSO) made a lasting contribution to the Waikato's cultural scene. Students of performance at the University of Waikato’s Music department are eligible to apply.

Open Rehearsals
The members of the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra invite audience members to join them for final rehearsals prior to each regular season concert. These rehearsals provide a first-hand preview to the music heard at each concert, as well as an opportunity to observe orchestra, conductor and soloist working together. The 2012 season's open rehearsals will be held at Diocesan School for Girls, Hamilton.
- Sunday, June 17th, 10AM - 12.30PM
- Sunday, November 11th, 10AM - 12.30PM
Entry to the open rehearsals is to those who hold a concert ticket for the following week’s performance.
Pre-Concert Discussions
Pre-concert discussions commence at the concert venue 45 minutes prior to each Hamilton performance (excluding Sunset Symphony) and are led by conductor Rupert D'Cruze. Through a question and answer format, audience members enjoy dialogue with the soloist, conductor and orchestra members. We invite you to join us for these engaging sessions and to bring your friends.
Admittance to the pre-concert discussion is with a valid ticket to the performance.
Conductor Training Programme
The aim of the programme is to provide a professional and supportive learning atmosphere in which participants can develop their conducting skills, and also to provide a forum for conductors to meet and exchange ideas.
2012 TWSO Conductor Training course will be held on:
- Saturday 25th August and Sunday 26 August, 2012
Full details are available on Rupert D'Cruze's website.
